After being considered one of the best players in the Major Leagues during the 2013 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Yasiel Puig’s career took unexpected turns. Now, a decade later and following stints in Mexico and South Korea, Puig is currently playing in the Dominican Republic with Estrellas Orientales. Although it has been four years since his last appearance in Major League Baseball, there is speculation that he might stage a comeback in the coming weeks.

At 33 years old, Puig is poised to make a potential return for the 2024 season, with several MLB teams expressing interest in signing him, as reported by journalist Francys Romero. The Tampa Bay Rays, in particular, are leading the race to bring the outfielder back next season, but the final decision remains uncertain.

Disciplinary History Yasiel Puig’s most recent Major League appearance was in September 2019 with the Cleveland Indians. Beginning the season with the Cincinnati Reds, he was traded to Cleveland in July as part of a three-way trade involving seven players.

Puig showcased his skills in 49 games with the Indians, demonstrating impressive arm strength in right field and maintaining a high hitting percentage. However, consistent with his career pattern, off-field issues curtailed his time in the Major Leagues.

In November 2022, Puig pleaded guilty to lying in a federal investigation into an illegal betting operation. The league opted not to investigate further, as he had not been associated with any franchise since 2019. Puig is scheduled to appear in a Los Angeles court at the end of January for his final sentencing.
